Letter from the President
Sitting around the Skiers Lodge fire in La Grave, France, I imagine what US guiding could be like in the next five years. On any given day I will come across IFMGA guides of different nationalities all here working as licensed guides and equally sharing access to the terrain we desire. In an idealistic guiding world all U.S. and internationally certified guides would have the opportunity to work just about anywhere land management agencies will allow. As I see it, this vision is possible if we continue this synergy to keep the CGF moving forward.
It is exciting to see the distance the CGF has traveled over the last year and a half. After raising the proper funds to move forward, the CGF Board and employee Simon Fryer, have been busy making countless phone calls to land managers, submitting proposals and researching workable group insurance policies. Though we have only completed the first step, we have successfully 'put on the harness' to begin this long and exciting expedition.
Join the Certified Guides Federation in this climb by becoming a member and supporting the organization for future growth. As of now, certified members will benefit from an insurance policy that will immediately cover American guides on non-permitted and international trips (within international trip guidelines) and international guides on non-permitted lands within the US. In addition, we are expecting permits to be in hand soon and with your help we hope to start procuring more permits in areas of interest. Membership levels and benefits vary.
