RMNP Visiting Guide ACCESS with CMS

Rocky Mountain National Park
The CGF and AMGA guides have a strong working partnership with the Colorado Mountain School (CMS). They have offered visiting guides the opportunity to work through their permit for areas within RMNP. Below are the details and steps necessary for arranging guiding days at this world class venue. Please contact the CGF if you have any questions.

Colorado Mountain School
Each visiting guide will work though CMS’s permit and become a CMS employee for the days in the area and follow all CMS employee guidelines and protocol. You must first contact Mike Alkaitis at CMS and let him know your interest. He will need your dates, intended route(s), number of clients, type of AMGA certification, WFR and CPR certification, and employment paperwork (W2, I9). Visiting guides will receive CMS’s top pay scale for the days of guiding. The rate is determined by the objective or program that you are offering your client(s). Mike will be able to provide the pay scale details when you speak with him about your interest.
This is a great opportunity to work in an area currently not accepting new permit applications. RMNP offers some of the best alpine rock, snow, and ice routes in the US as well as classic rock climbing on various crags throughout the park.

BLM Indian Creek, UT

Non Permitted Areas in the US

The CGF’s insurance policy will cover CGF Guides on Non Permitted lands in the US. Each CGF guide must download the guide protocols to the left. Also please check with the local land managers and guides for seasonal closures. If you have questions please contact the CGF at cgfinfo@mac.com
